Mine Hill, NJ first to act
The Town Council and Mayor Morris were the first town in New Jersey to pass an ordinance waiving water and sewer fees for deployed military personnel. When someone is deployed on active duty, their job is guaranteed but not their paycheck. When they come home they have a pile of bills with less money to pay them. Mine Hill felt this was the least they as a town could do for their residents on active duty.
Mine Hill had this bill sponsored in the NJ state Assembly and Senate and signed by the Governor Christie.
The ordinance will allow officials to abate utility fees for the duration of deployment for military duty.
Challenging all municipalities
We urge you to approach your municipality to follow suit as they see fit and can financially afford.
