I was full of emotion and fear when my son convinced me to give him my blessing to join the Army. I grew up as a daughter of a Vietnam Vet and had a very negative perception of military life through my dad’s post war experiences.
My fear was life paralyzing and my friends didn’t understand. My dad didn’t share his opinions, which increased my fear. He was also struggling.
The day my son left, I thought I would never survive his 10 weeks of Basic Training. Moms from MMN that had sons and daughters in the same training group became my life long BFFs. We navigated the unknown together. I grew stronger as time passed. Today, I love to pay it forward working with MMN to support other moms new to military life, and our service men and women. ??
